A large, multi-specialty healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) to join its executive leadership team. This key leadership role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the medical group, driving quality improvement and operational excellence, and implementing strategic initiatives across the organization.
Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the ACMO will provide clinical leadership, operational oversight, and strategic guidance to medical staff while fostering strong collaboration with physicians, administrators, and key stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a board-certified physician with proven leadership experience and a strong record of improving quality, performance, and patient outcomes.
Primary Responsibilities:

Oversee daily medical group operations to ensure efficient, high-value patient care

Provide professional oversight and strategic alignment of care delivery initiatives

Track, analyze, and communicate performance data to clinical and administrative teams

Ensure compliance with regulatory, CMS, NCQA, and internal care guidelines

Partner with the CMO to enhance programs, improve outcomes, optimize patient experience, and reduce cost of care

Promote a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
Secondary Responsibilities:

Identify and manage risk management issues
-
Collaborate on strategic planning, goal development, and performance management

Develop and implement policies and protocols to ensure regulatory compliance

Analyze quality and utilization data to address care gaps
-
Support quality improvement, peer review, and credentialing initiatives
-
Review large claims, utilization trends, prior authorizations, and medical necessity determinations
-
Partner with internal teams (Member Services, Case Management, Provider Relations) to resolve escalations
-
Contribute to member education materials and transition-of-care initiatives
-
Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, case reviews, and staff training
-
Perform additional duties as assigned by executive leadership
Qualifications:

M.D. or D.O. degree
-
Board Certification through the American Board of Medical Specialties

Active, unrestricted medical license
-
Minimum 5 years of clinical practice experience with leadership responsibilities

Experience in managed care, utilization review, risk adjustment, quality improvement, care coordination, and medical review strongly preferred

Knowledge of payor operations, clinical economics, informatics, and workflow design
-
Strong communication, presentation, and change management skills
-
Proficiency with EHR systems and Microsoft Office

Ability to work effectively within a matrix-style organization
